A day out on the west coast of Koh Chang. The first thing to note is that the roads are not suitable for inexperienced motorbike riders. Your motorbike also need to be in good shape, good brakes and reasonably new oil should be ensured.

If you are up for steep climbs followed by steep declines then go for it, its great fun!

There are many beaches, and pretty much all the sandy ones are beautiful. I am sure people will have preferences based on just how busy or quiet they prefer their holidays, and of course what your budget is. Costs vary from $12 to $150 or more, so chose whatever matches your budget and lifestyle.

Nightlife is standard Thai, beach restaurants at night, cover bands playing or techno dj’s (whatever they are called these days). It is all fairly relaxed though – or at least what this old guy found. Didn’t see any nite clubs or early morning raves on the go.

Overall it is an island where Thai’s holiday and ovoids the worst excesses of more western/Russian focussed islands. All the netter for it too.

Plenty of bikers on the island too, all Thai as far as I saw. BMW riders, MC’s, even a bar or two catering specifically for. The mountain roads are a draw for experienced bikers to play on. Bikers get to skip the insane car queues for the port leaving the island!

So a lovely island, beautiful beaches, mountains and diving or fishing on the water. Less western and better for it.

Hope that gives you at least a brief impression! Adventurer.
