And so the planning is almost complete. Heading off next weekend hoping to do Cambodia to Thailand and up through Laos.

Confident I can get into Laos as others with a Cambodian registered bike have managed recently. No reason why it should not be possible yet it has been very difficult for many years, if not impossible.

Plan B would see me go to Chiang Mai to do the Mae Hong Son loop close to Myanmar, but hopefully Laos will open its doors to me. The return journey back into Thailand from Laos is also fraught with difficulties and I expect to use a fixer or have to travel all the way to southern Laos to cross direct to Cambodia.

Plenty that can derail plans but that puts the adventure into the ride!

Laos will be my first visit to the northern part of the country to Vientiane (capital), Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and onwards to Nong Khiaw. If fortune prevails I might get to the Plain of Jars on the return journey but it adds practically two days of hard riding.

Possible route

As with these trips it is all about the journey and plans are best left fairly vague so there is no pressure to be somewhere. Let it unfold as it will, and enjoy the unknown.

Keep you posted as I travel and hopefully add some videos and photos.

Saoirse is ready!
